CHARLIE MARIN

Born and raised in Santa Monica, Charlie started studying music in the 4th grade at McKinley Elementary School in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. He continued in the music program throughout middle and high school, joining every ensemble he could, including the Santa Monica Youth Orchestra, the Samohi Marching Band, the Samohi Orchestra, and the Samohi Jazz Band. His favorite parts of his journey have been the experiences given to him through the music programs he has been a part of.

Charlie has played with artists such as Willie Murillo, Blake Cooper, Flee, Stanley Clark, and more. He has also performed in incredible venues like the prestigious Carnegie Hall. Graduating from Samohi as the most outstanding performing arts student in his class, Charlie thanks all of the amazing music teachers working for SMMUSD for creating these opportunities.

Charlie now studies under Professor Blake Cooper and Matthew Evans at Santa Monica College for bass trombone performance, with a goal to transfer to UCLA and study music education. He currently plays in the SMC orchestra, jazz band, and wind ensemble as principal bass trombone and principal euphonium.

Charlie is thrilled to now be a part of the Elemental family, and is excited to learn and grow as a musician alongside the students and staff of Elemental Music.
