Jaylon Black

Jaylon Black is a Los Angeles–based violinist, music educator, conductor, and Grammy-nominated string arranger with more than 20 years of performance experience. A graduate of Berklee College of Music with a degree in Music Education, Jaylon has dedicated much of his career to helping young musicians develop strong technique, confidence, creativity, and a lifelong appreciation for music.

As an educator, Jaylon has worked with students of all ages and experience levels in private, classroom, and ensemble settings. His teaching experience includes serving as a Violin Teaching Artist and Concert String Ensemble Conductor with the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA), as well as teaching and directing orchestras with Education Through Music–Los Angeles (ETM-LA) and teaching violin at Crossroads School. He also operates his own private lesson studio through Jaylon Black Music, where he has taught students individually since 2014.

Classically and Suzuki-trained from a young age, Jaylon’s teaching approach combines strong technical foundations with creativity, musicianship, and exposure to a wide range of musical styles. He believes music education should provide students with a safe and encouraging space to explore, make mistakes, develop their individual artistic voices, and build skills such as discipline, collaboration, independence, and leadership.

Alongside his work in education, Jaylon maintains an active career as a professional violinist, recording musician, and string arranger. His work has been featured on major stages and productions around the world, including Coachella, Radio City Music Hall, and Carnegie Hall, and he has collaborated with internationally recognized artists across pop, R&B, hip-hop, gospel, and contemporary music. His continued work in the professional music industry allows him to bring real-world experience into his teaching and show students how the fundamentals they develop in lessons can translate into a wide range of musical and professional opportunities.
