New Winter Classes from Elemental Music!

Winter Classes at Elemental Music

HAGA CLIC ACÁ PARA ESPAÑOL

Elemental Music is a gift to the Santa Monica & Westside communities...[It] is an enrichment program that gives students a strong foundation that will help them develop musically, socially, and academically.
— Joni Swenson, former Director of Orchestras, Santa Monica High School

Our students have performed from Santa Monica stages and parks all the way to the Hollywood Bowl, and our extracurricular music programs are the perfect place for kids to find community and make music.

We are delighted to let you know about three new short-term Elemental Music program offerings that will be launching in January 2024! There are offerings for elementary, middle, and high school students.

Bucket Band

Mondays, 3:45–4:45pm (grades 3–5)

Mondays, 5–6pm (grades 6–8)

8-week workshop, beginning January 22 at Elemental Music’s building
(1906 Olympic Blvd.)

This class is a way for everyone to enjoy the thrill of playing in a percussion ensemble - no experience necessary! Students will work with beloved Elemental Band coach Dr. Yuri to discover the art of percussion, all while using everyday buckets as their instruments!

Music Composition Workshop

Mondays, 4–6pm (grades 9–12)

8-week workshop, beginning February 5 at Elemental Music’s building
(1906 Olympic Blvd.)

Designed for high school students who are curious about creating their own music, students in this program will work with award-winning composer María Eugenia León to learn the foundations of melodic development and use their own instrumental skills to explore their ideas. Students should have an intermediate level of proficiency on an instrument of their choosing as well as prior knowledge in music theory.

Workshop for Winds

Tuesdays, 3:45–4:45pm

10 week workshop, beginning January 16 at Lincoln Middle School

This short-term class is for beginning band students in grade 4 who just started playing their instruments this past fall, designed to build their chops and give them more opportunities to make music! This class is co-taught by Emily Senchuk and Ellen Shinogle - both SMMUSD Dream Wind coaches who know the skills that students need to build in order to get ahead in their music classes.
