Elemental Music would not be the same without the many passionate volunteers who dedicate their time and talents to support our young musicians and our programs.
We want to recognize some of our superstar volunteers who help make our programs possible through their generosity of time, talent, and spirit…and plain old hard work!
Today, we're excited to spotlight Ruben Hernandez, whose children went through many of our programs including Prelude, Elemental Strings, Chamber Music Institute, and Encore. Even though his children are no longer in our programs, Ruben’s family spent over a decade making music with us and he has stayed connected to the organization even as an alumni parent! Ruben has been instrumental in getting our campus ready for students and helping beautify our space. From helping to repair various fixtures in our kitchens and bathrooms to climbing ladders and putting up window films and even fixing our sprinkler system to reduce waste while keeping our succulents healthy, Ruben has dedicated so much time and energy to our organization.
We are incredibly grateful for his generosity and the way his family has kept us in their lives even after leaving the programs, and we are excited for you to get to know him too!
Elemental Music: How did you first become involved in volunteering with Elemental Music?
Ruben Hernandez: I became involved because my kids were in the awesome Elemental Music program.
EM: With so many commitments in life, why did you choose to carve out time for volunteering?
RH: I chose to volunteer because we are so grateful for what Elemental Music offered to our kids.
EM: If you could have any super power while volunteering, what would it be and why?
RH: I would make the building twice as big for the students to enjoy!
EM: What makes Elemental Music special to you?
RH: Elemental Music is special to me because all the staff and teachers are wonderful. They welcome every student who is interested in learning music.
EM: What would you say to someone who is considering volunteering but doesn't feel like they have enough time or resources to do so?
RH: I would say that it doesn't matter if it’s 10 or 15 minutes of volunteering time - it's highly valued at Elemental Music. And also, it’s just a little of what our kids receive.
