Early McCalister has a unique combination of education and professional experience that allows him to teach with tremendous passion and enthusiasm that inspires his students to achieve their goals and enjoy playing music. He has earned a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Music Education with an emphasis on Social Justice. His education provides a solid foundation in a variety of teaching pedagogies and is well-versed in his student-centered approach to teaching students from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds and cultures. In addition to his education, he has over 25 years of teaching experience in both underserved public and elite private schools complementing his private studio teaching. Early McCalister has an effective personalized approach to private instruction for Saxes, Flute, Clarinet, Music Production, EWI, Voice, Composition, and Songwriting. He also teaches Jazz Improvisation for all instruments and coaches singers and musicians of all ages in a small band setting.
In addition to his teaching, he is also in demand as a Saxophone Artist/Singer and Musical Director for Television Shows, Commercials, Concerts, and Special Events. Early McCalister has performed with many well-known artists such as Queen Latifah, Wayne Brady, and Brian McKnight to name a few. Other highlights include performing on The Academy Awards, performing for Vice-President Joseph Biden, CBS, and 20th Century Fox Studios, as Saxophone Artist/Singer and Musical Director. Early McCalister is also an effective Music Educator, Arranger/Composer, and Producer.
Combining the knowledge from his education and professional experiences Early McCalister maintains his student-centered approach focused on the progress of his students. He continues to learn new methods to inspire and support his students learning. Early McCalister displays his love of teaching music through his passion and enthusiasm expressed in every lesson.
